Wanna know more about this dashing dog? Let’s go then………
What is a sheepadoodle Basically?
In order to tell you about the Sheepadoodles, first of all, you need to know that the sheepadoodle is not a purebred dog but a cross between an old English sheepdog.
The mix of these dogs will vary from pup to pup, depending on which of their parents they take after. Well, you will never be quite sure what to expect. But one thing is sure, they will be cute. They are lovely dogs and their love for their family is especially unconditional. Sheepadoodles are basically designer dogs that are bred specially for dog lovers who are looking for an obedient dog which is energetic, loving, and kind.
One more good thing about them is, that they shed very little, which means that they are perfect dogs for those who want a cute dog in their house without all that “hairs” stuff.
The sheepadoodles just got a massive boost in terms of popularity when Meryl Davis and her partner Fedor Andreev, both figure skaters, both showed off their pet on social media.
Well, the sheepadoodles, even for not being purebred dogs, are extremely valuable and expensive.
Luckily, they inherit the best of both parents, making for a remarkable pooch. The Gorgeous suffix of ‘doodle’ came in 1992, so whenever you find a poodle crossbreed, you must come across the “doodle’ in its name. Which generally, seem’s cuter.
Origin of Sheepdog
On the other hand, others think it possible that the breed finds it’s rooted in Russian Owtchar, or maybe, the Scottish Bearded Collie. One more interesting thing is, that the first documentation of this dog comes not from the written record, but from the world of art.
Many of the people believe that the dog has been featured in the 18th-century painting of Thomas Gainsborough. Well, for now, what we know is that Bermingham, England lays claim to the first official showing of an English Sheepdog.
That competition was held in 1873, and from that point forward, the breed was destined to go to enjoy the worldwide fame as a show dog.
Origin of Poodle
Just like the Old English Sheepdog, the origins of poodles are also up for debate. Some of the people claim and believe that these dogs descended from the French ancestors while some people say that they have their origin in Germany.
Well, the dog was first seen in an art by a German artist, back in 1400’s, so he is given the credit for showing that dog first.
They come in three sizes. which includes Standard, Miniature, and toy. The standard, in the Sheepadoodles crossbreed, is the largest of three and was originally coveted for its incredible hunting ability.
Well, if we get to know about the toy sized dog, it first appeared in 1700’s. Both, the miniature and toy sized dogs turn out to be the best family companions.
Let us tell you also that there is less information to be found in the historical record about the Sheepadoodles origins. However, as much as we came to know about the origins of these dogs, is that they were first bred in the U.S in 1990’s.
The registrations have begun to be recorded by the International Canine Association in 2009.
Size of the Sheepadoodle
Wanna know that how a fully grown sheepadoodle look’s like? In order to know this, we need to take a looks at its parents’ dimensions to get a reasonable estimate of shepadoodle’s proportions.
So let’s get to know about it………..
Standard poodles maximum height is 21 inches with a total average weight of 65 pounds. The life expectancy of them is 12 years.
The other parent, Old English Sheepdogs have an average height of 2 feet. Males reach 22 inches plus while the females stand around 21-inches and over.
And obviously, these large sized dogs carry a good amount of weight on their frame, with anything between 60 and 100 pounds. Their life expectancy is about 10 to 12 years.
Well, if we talk generally, a standard sheepadoolde can be anywhere within these ranges. They are also likely to live the same amount of life, so you could predict in 10 to 12 years.
However, if you are wondering a mini sheepadoodle, then it will weigh around 25-45 pounds, with over 22 inches height.
The general appearance of a sheepadoodle
When we talk about the appearance of a Sheepadoodle, there is just one word which stuck in our mind and that is “Beautiful”, and the reason behind this is its exceptional beauty.
Well, in this particular section we will let you know about the general appearance of this beautiful creature. So let’s get started……..
The Sheepadoodles are generally black and white in color, and we may call it the panda bear of the dog world, having one or both eyes ringed by a large patch of black fur. Topping off their cuddly look is an adorable, dark, and prominent nose.
However, it doesn’t hurt the comparison in the least that these medium sized dogs are just as playful and clownish as the endearing panda bear.
The coat color of sheepadoodle ranges from being mainly white in front and a bit black on the tail end, to some canines appearing nearly all white or all black while splashed with large, random splotches of the opposite color.
As with the old English sheepdog, don’t be so surprised if your sheepadoodle fur eventually fades off into a beautiful grayish-hue after just a year or maybe, more. Although, this occurrence is rare. Once in a great while, soft shades of sable will appear in your sheepadoodle’s coat.
Temperament of Sheepadoodle
If we talk about the personality of this beautiful dog, the new can say that it will be greatly influenced by the genetics of the Old English sheepdog and poodle. Well, if you want to know it better that how will it behave, then first, let’s have a look at its parents’ temperament.
So, now let’s first discuss the temperament of English sheepdog.
Old English sheepdogs also enjoy for being included in the family time and along with the poodle, can do well with children provided if they are socialized and trained early and properly.
You will also be glad to know that just like the poodle, the old English Sheepdog is a fast learner just like the poodle, which means, in this case, there is no problem with the sheepadoodle.
Additionally, Poodles are ranked near the top in the canine intelligence and are highly trainable. They enjoy pleasing their owners and retain an alert sensitivity. which in turn means, they will inform you when any stranger approach.
Well, poodles have a reputation for being high strung but in fact they naturally low levels of aggression. Early socialization and training will make sure that the behaves according to your expectations.
The training should not be based on punishment but praise and rewards. Since punishment can actually mask signs of troubling behavior.
Most of the owners of sheepadoodles, who have trained and socialized them well, says that their pups are very sociable, playful, people-oriented, and displays a sweet deposition.
Well, it is important to remember that your sheepadoodle’s temperament can be at one corner of the both or will be the mix of both breeds.
The activity level of your Sheepadoodle
If you want such a dog that just sits in corners of your home and which isn’t playful, then you should skip the sheepadoodles because they inherit a lively set of genes.
If we talk about the sheepdogs, they need an outlet for their physical nature. They are big and enthusiastic dogs and require proper training to curb what could turn easily turn into a rowdy, unwanted behavior. E.g, some of them may try to herd smaller animals and also, children.
When it comes to poodles, they maintain moderate levels of energy and like to keep busy, especially mentally. Well, the sheepadoodles will inherit his parent’s proclivity for activity. Although, if they are like the poodle parent, then they will need a lot of mental and also physical stimulation.
Thye will need to be kept in a company all the day. Actually, this is not a dog that will remain happy if left alone.

The poodles are popular pet choice due to their relatively hypoallergenic coat, although they should not be considered completely allergen free.
well, there is no guarantee that your poodle mix will be hypoallergenic.
The poodle’s hair is a delightful departure from the classic canine coat as it consists of minimal shedding, soft, curlycue locks. Additionally, they also don’t have high undercoats.
But you should keep in mind that their curly hairs tend to interlock with the existing coat as it sheds. Which, without regular brushing may result in matting.
Well, the non-shedding hair can be a problem when we talk about the ears. If the fur is allowed to grow inside the ear canal, it may result in infection.
Just like that, the ears of old English sheepdog should also be spot-checked regularly for dirt and wax buildup that could lead to some kind of infection. They also have the tendency to drool.
From all these characteristics of the parents breed, Sheepadoodle tends to have long hair in loose waves that are not as labor-intensive to maintain the sheepdog locks. Moreover, it will be good for them to be brushed several times a week using a rake or slicker brush.
The sheepadoodle may have a very tight coat or loser curls which are likely to shed more. It could be high maintenance and also need daily brushing. Or maybe, very similar to poodle and benefit from brushing.
In order to avoid problems like an ear infection, make sure the routine cutting and plucking of the sheepadoodle’s ear hair.
What should they eat?
If we talk about the diet of Sheepadoodles, then, make sure that you have enough money to reach their daily food requirements because they need high-quality kibbles. As they are so active, so you will need to feed them 2 to 3 times a day.
Give them small portions and adjust the amount of food you are giving them if you see them losing their weight. However, you should also be careful about feeding them. Don’t give them the free flow of food as they tend to lose self-control and overeat.
Once at night, some wet food is a great idea but take it a bit easy on this one because it may lead your Sheepadoodle to overweight.
